Jervis Bay Marine Park – South of Sydney by Anne Owens

Have you got a yearning while overseas to hire a real sea kayak and explore on water where you are? Then look Dane up at; Sea Kayak Jervis Bay info@seakayakjervisbay.com

I know it might seem like an advertisement, but you can’t beat access to quality boats, flexibility in drop offs and pick ups to meet your needs, the weather and expectations.

First, I decided to do his ½ day tour knowing it was targeted at beginners (which I was aware of), but enjoying the knowledge and where we went and the chance to go snorkelling. Don’t forget to take your own snorkelling gear. Morning tea was great also. We were along the coast of the Booderee National Park. An area worth exploring on foot and by water. We explored along the coast from Green Patch to Murrays Bay, 5km in each direction.
To enter this park, it costs $13 for 2 days for your car.

The next day I personally hired the same boat to do some solo exploration, going from Green Patch North to the town of Husskisson and up the creek for some exploration to the boat ramp for an easy exit. This time approximately 19km of coastline and creek explored. A great way to see everything from the on the water point of view. The creek also has 3 fairly residents large stingrays of which I spotted. Enjoyed doing a one -way trip also.
Two fab days had on the water and what a time of year to visit. April treated us to great weather and less people and very limited other boats on the water. I felt like an intrepid traveler, exploring the coastline at my own pace and choosing where and when to pause or stop to stretch my legs or have a snack.

Cost as of April 2024: Single kayak hire for the day $70 or Double $100 (Aussie dollars)
Put this area on your list even if by foot, beautiful beaches, walks and vistas.

On this trip I was keen to visit Tarahiki Island, which sits in the Firth of Thames east of Pakatoa. This photo of Tarahiki was taken several weeks earlier, (from Rotoroa Island).
