Take the chance to get away from the crowds for a relaxing weekend with good company and good food.
This gem in Mahurangi Harbour is a 2 km paddle from Sullivans Bay, which is the Auckland Council park at the end of the Mahurangi West Road, first on the right past Puhoi.
The house sleeps 8 (including 2 couples) and has all creature comforts.
Bring sleeping bag, pillow case and food. A shared meal and nibbles is the norm for Saturday night, so bring your goodies.
Lagoon Bay is very tidal, so bringing a kayak trolley is a good idea. The range of paddling is endless, e.g. Waiwera, Warkworth, Kawau Island, Motuora Island – your choice. Or just rest and read and enjoy this tranquil and special place. We recommend you take a carry bag to get all your gear up the track to the house. Secure parking is at Sullivans Bay. Leave a note on your dashboard reading “Vine House Volunteer” when you park in front of the ranger’s house.
Call Trevor on 817-7357, or Matt (Treasurer aucklandcanoeclub.org.nz/contact-us), to book a bed and for detailed information.

Auckland Canoe Club holds a range of events where we paddle and play together. Some events are just for members, but most are open to all. We encourage you to come along and see what we are about. If you like what you see, join the club!
On this trip I was keen to visit Tarahiki Island, which sits in the Firth of Thames east of Pakatoa. This photo of Tarahiki was taken several weeks earlier, (from Rotoroa Island).
Auckland Canoe Club has been part of the kayaking scene in Auckland since 1954. It has a proud history of helping its members have fun on the water and improve their paddling skills. The club’s main focus is sea kayaking in the waters of Tāmaki Makaurau but occasionally trips are also organised further afield.
Our members are active participants in all types of paddling experiences that get them out on the water, including exploration and camping, social meandering, expeditions, rescue training, rock gardening and surfing. The club offers a variety of events, trips and training sessions and is run by volunteers. The club’s home base is its storage shed on the Ōkahu Bay boat ramp on Tāmaki Drive, Auckland. This facility and the club’s hire fleet are available for members.
