The Club has an active calendar of trips that are suitable for many different groups depending on their skill levels.
These are advertised in the Club Newsletter and on-line via this Website.
The club night is every Tuesday. Kayakers meet from 5:30 pm
and mingle deciding the route to be taken. Usually there are two groups.
One for beginners, gentle and local for 60 - 90 minutes and may involve a
cup of coffee. The second, usually faster for those fitter and can be from
90 minutes - 2 and a half hours. There is
much water traffic and care must be taken crossing commercial shipping
lanes.
On Saturday mornings from 8:30 am a coffee trip departs the
ramp for Kohi Cafe. This is a gentle 20 min paddle to the beach followed by
chat and coffee and a return via Bean rock usually.

Protocols for attending Club trips:
- Safety First: Leave details of your route and a
timetable with a responsible contact.
- Notify the trip Organiser before turning up for
a trip.
- Tell your trip leader about:
- skill level,
- experience,
- expectations before the trip,
- any medical conditions or medication you are
taking that may affect your ability to kayak.
- Follow the instructions of the trip
leader.
- Be aware of and support the others on the trip.
top
- Stay with the group, or else notify the leader
and/or another group member if you are separating from the group.
NOTE:If you do leave the group it is assumed you are no longer on
the club trip and no longer the responsibility of the group.
Safety Policy:
- Any club member who has any doubt about
whether or not their skills are sufficient for a particular trip MUST
contact the trip leader ahead of time to discuss safety issues.
- It is your responsibility to wear a buoyancy
aid, to be suitably dressed for the conditions, and to carry any other
personal safety equipment necessary for the trip.
- You must make a realistic assessment that your
strength and endurance are sufficient for what ever is planned. Please
be honest about this because attempting to go on a trip that you do not
have the skills or stamina to complete, could put the whole group at
risk.
- You must be able to re enter your kayak (with
help from another paddler if necessary) after a capsize in deep water.
- With night paddling it is everybody's
responsibility to provide their own large lens flashlight, or fixed all
round white light on a one meter high pole, in working order and mounted
on the outside of the kayak where it can be seen at all times.
- Use a craft appropriate for the trip. A kayak
with water tight bulkheads is essential for open sea kayaking. Sit on
kayaks are usually too slow to keep up with sea kayaks, therefore are
not recommended on trips planned for sea kayaks.
- It is recommended that members should attend
at least a basic kayaking course before attending club organised trips.
